Things change

Margaret and Jack went to Waco yesterday and went by some of the places where Mom and Dad lived and worked a long time ago.

IMG_1858 Aunt Maggie's Sunnyside Sandwich Shop is a parking lot.

IMG_1845 The house that now sits at 530 Herring Ave. is obviously not the apartment that we lived in back in 1947.

They also drove by what used to be Grandma Bradford's house on W. 4th St. and there was nothing there.

Grandma Bradford '30 or '31

Pat sent me this one of Grandma Bradford taken in either '30 or '31.  As you can see she had long curly hair and Pat says that she cut it and sold it so they could move back to Texas and find work.

Mail0016a I am guessing that they lived in Key West, FL at the time based on what I know about the family history and the background in the picture.  I sure am glad and proud that she did it because that brought the family to Texas where we belong.

The three of us

Pat recently sent me a picture of what she believed was a picture of my Grandfather when he was young.  I put that picture along with the pictures of me and Dad when we were about the same age together and I think she is right.  It is better if you view this full screen.

Need some help

I need some help on these two.

img878 I know that this picture was taken at Randolph AFB so it was probably taken in front of our house when we lived there between 1951 and 1955.  I believe that is Aunt Peggy leaning against the car and I believe that is Aunt Irene and Uncle Oscar with Gwen just outside the picture on the left playing with what I hope is a doll and not a real baby.  Can anyone verify?

img877 Does anyone recognize these people?  The lady sorta looks like Great Grandma White.  I sure would like to know if he is my Great Grandfather.

Grandma Bradford Handwriting

On the back of this picture is Grandma Bradford telling who is in it and describing it in her handwriting.  So far it is the only thing I have of her handwriting.

Postcard from England

img833 This is a postcard from England from Uncle Robert to Grandma Bradford.  It shows about 7 famous landmarks of England and there is no writing.  It is dated Nov. 25 1944.

Grandma White's Birthday Party

I am not sure when these were taken but I believe it must have been in the early 50s and probably in LA.

img825 Aunt Alva Mae and one of the other ladies is Jimmie McBride.

img828 The comment on the back just says "Group".  Dad is on the back row, far right.  Great Grandma White is seated and that is Margaret in the foreground.

img832 That is me with the big grin and then Margaret.  Other than Grandma White I do not know the others in the picture.

The White's

These are some pictures of Dad's side of the family , all related to his real Father, Herbert F. White Sr.

img826 Aunt Tinnie, I believe her last name was Zero.  She live in Port Authur, TX and worked all her life for Gulf Oil at a refinery there.  I recall that we used to go visit with her and she lived in a small apartment upstairs.  You walked up a flight of stair outside and entered into her bedroom/living room.  There was a small kitchen and bathroom.  She had her walls covered with various knick knacks and we weren't allow to touch them according to Mom and Dad.  Aunt Tinnie didn't mind and would bring some of them down for Margaret and I to look at and play with.  She was a nice lady and I liked going to visit her.  This picture was taken in the Chinese Sunken Gardens in San Antonio.

img827 Front row L to R:  Aunt Alva, Aunt Fannie, Aunt Tinnie, Toby and me.  Back row L to R:  Uncle Jack Byland and Jack White.

Uncle Jack and Aunt Alva Mae lived in Port Authur where he was a painting contractor.  Aunt Fannie was married to Uncle George Savoy and they lived in Lake Charles, LA.  We used to go to Gilcrist, TX every Labor day and go fishing with them.  I do not remember Toby nor Jack White.  It was my understanding in later years that he was a cousin of Dad's and he was the black sheep of the family and they didn't talk about him very much.  I do not know where he lived or anything about him except he was married and had two sons.
